TIRED OF PAYING SCHOOL TUITION? EXHAUSTED BY COMMUTING TO THE COUNTRY?
Princeton House in the Woods Might Be Your Solution.
THE RIGHT HOUSE FOR YOU?
Located just over an hour by train from NYC, and less than hour drive from Philadelphia, this 3600 sq ft. home Is on 2.5 densely wooded acres in Princeton, NJ. It adjoins protected lands; the Princeton public schools are excellent. The NJ AIA recognized this house, designed by Holt & Morgan, for an honor award when it was completed in 1973.
There is no need to join a gym because there is a dedicated exercise room (at grade) with an elliptical machine and stationery bike.
The expansive living room is divided into two unobstructed parts; an upper area with a 19’ high ceiling; and a cozier lower level (two steps down) with a working fireplace and dry bar.
There are 4 bedrooms (each with very large closets), a study (which could be an additional bedroom or guest room), a loft family room/ additional study (with a fieldstone wall), 4.5 baths, and three screened porches. One of the bedrooms has a working fireplace. The bedrooms include a master bedroom (added in 1991) which is a self-contained “tree house” with its own porch and bathroom.
The kitchen has Sub-Zero, Asko, and Jenn-Air appliances. It also has its original Formica counter tops that were formulated to Piet Mondrian’s exact color requirements. The cabinetry in the kitchen and bathrooms was custom designed. Planned for a Kosher household, the kitchen has an unusually generous amount of storage for dishes (including a distinct area for Passover dishes) There is a separate eating area off the kitchen with additional two burner cook-top to supplement four burners on the kitchen island; one of the porches –which is protected from wind or rain- adjoins the eating space so that it is possible to have dinner outside most nights from April-October. The dining room, on the same level as the kitchen, is adjacent to its own porch and overlooks deep woods. The laundry is on the same level as the kitchen, dining room, study, and tiled full bathroom.
There are hardwood floors throughout in addition to slate flooring at the entrances and in the exercise room and there are Mexican tiles in three of the bathrooms. The roof, heating & AC have been replaced and upgraded over the years. The security system is up to date and includes fire and theft alarms that are wired to a central station. All of the hardware throughout the house is Modric, imported from England.
An added plus is the Lynch Rod system for hanging art work. The walls will never be marred by nail holes. There is also a fully operational dark room. The unfinished basement has an air-cooled wine cellar and a cedar closet.
The original owners, who commissioned the house, are now selling because they are “downsizing” to smaller quarters.
Taxes are $20,000 per year.
Price: $2.3 million
